Punk 69: A Course Proposal

So long as the definition of punk remains unruly, the definition of punk literature will remain equally unruly, with a possible history going back well before the 1970s when punk was officially born as a named cultural phenomenon. Nonetheless, the alternative press has supported punk attitudes for decades, and some of the possible literati to consider would include:

• Kathy Acker
• Bob Black
• Charles Bukowski
• William S. Burroughs
• Jim Carroll
• Exene Cervenka
• William Gibson
• Harold Jaffe
• Henry Rollins
• Patti Smith

I'll find links for these names where I can, but please help me flesh this list out with men and women of letters who have published punk literature. For now, the list is only what comes off the top of my head.

I'd also like to collect links and information on publications which regularly feature writing that reflects a punk attitude, such as the Journal of Experimental Fiction and any punk zines, including those without websites. Collaborators wanted -- email me. - MF
