Bachelors of Science, Business Administration, California State University at Long Beach, 1985

DOCTORAL DISSERTATION:

Cyborg Subjectivity. This project examines texts in theory, literature, film, and performance art as inscriptions of an evolving understanding of human ontology in the face of embodied hybridization with technology. The stages of hybridization are approached through characterizations of the cyborg-maker and cyborg first introduced in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and thereafter updated and mutated by legions of others. My exegesis leads into a definition of humanity as approaching a state of distributed consciousness, which I read as a tragic narrative using Northrup Frye’s classic Anatomy of Criticism as a structural touchstone defining tragedy.
Director: Malcolm Griffith.
