Kelly A. Galanis, administrative fellow for advancement and college relations at Westfield State College, was recently elected president of Massachusetts Women in Public Higher Education (MWPHE). Currently serving as president-elect, she will take office in June 2010.
“As president-elect, I promise to provide the utmost support, dedication, and leadership to my female colleagues in the public higher education sector,” Galanis said.
Galanis has been employed in higher education for the past eight years. Before working for the Division of Advancement and College Relations, she was a presidential appointed fellow in the Division of Academic Affairs at Westfield State.
As a member of MWPHE, she sat on the executive board, serving as the professional development awards chair since 2006. She also has served as chair of the Traditional Alumni/G.O.L.D Committee for the Bay Path College Alumni Association Council, since 2004.
Galanis is a former member of Dress for Success Western Massachusetts and Women in Philanthropy of Western Massachusetts.
Currently, she is a co-advisor for the class of 2010 at Westfield State, and is new to the board of directors for Westfield on Weekends, a non-profit organization working to bring arts and entertainment to the city of Westfield.
Galanis was honored last year when she was selected as one of the Business West’s Forty under 40 - the class of 2008, a salute to up and coming business leaders in the Western Massachusetts region.
Galanis received an associate’s degree and bachelor's degree in legal studies from Bay Path College, as well as a master’s in communications and information management, allowing her to become the first person to receive three consecutive degrees from Bay Path.
She also completed master of public administration courses at Westfield State from 2005 - 2007.
“Massachusetts Women in Public Higher Education is at an exciting place right now - we are thrilled to announce our non-profit status within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and our membership is growing rapidly,” Galanis said.
“It is both an honor and a privilege to represent this fine organization in this capacity, and to provide women the opportunity to succeed through our scholarships and professional development conferences,” she said.
MWPHE is a non-profit organization open to women administrators, as well as to women who aspire to administrative positions in public higher education in Massachusetts.
The organization establishes an information and support network, enhances professional development, encourages and promotes upward mobility, and addresses issues affecting Massachusetts public higher education and the status of women with the system.
